Versace Couture Dazzles at the Ritz Paris One Last Time
Since 2004 Donatella Versace‘s couture designs have the fashion world has missed her vibrant line and eye for glamour. Her announcement that she would be bringing Atelier Versace to Paris Fashion Week last season was met with shock and excitement within the industry. Emboldened by her success, Donatella is bringing the couture wing of her fashion empire back into the spotlight in commemoration of her brother Gianni Versace, as well as to celebrate turning 57 this year.
One of the Italian labels first catwalk shows in eight years, the Paris Ritz showcase will be made even more poignant by the fact that the venue will be closing down for two years soon after. Donatella Versace, in making her couture, has expressed the imminent closure with nostalgia, declaring it “the end of an era”. The Ritz holds special memories for the designer, who remembers her brother’s final collection being hosted there in 1997.
To Make Angelina Jolie’s Wedding Dress?
Versace’s haute couture perfume, bag and dress collection’s latest debut have been met with a rousing show of support by high-profile celebrities who have modelled the collection on the red carpet. Angelina Jolie and her leg were the latest duo to champion the fashion line at the Oscars. Jolie’s dress, which emphasised the actress’ impressive right leg, was a head turner; lately initiating speculation that the actress might commission a Versace couture gown design for her pending nuptials.
Exciting times for Donatella, her Versace couture line will be showcased this coming June at the Ritz. Having received criticism in 2004 for the format of her collection, the designer has altered the presentation, reverting back to the opulence and glamour that is imbued in the Versace name. Having readily discarded the cheap, glitzy stage constructions she was slated for, it is clear that Donatella has learnt from her reviews and moved on to greater things.
The collaboration between Versace couture dresses and H&M last winter sent vibrations that are still rippling through the fashion industry. Getting everyone’s attention for what’s to come, the 15 looks were styled after her glamorous warrior theme using corsets, beads and embroidery; the embodiment of modern toughness and dubious elegance.
A Chic Future Ahead
Versace couture is continually caught in the bauble of celebrity sparkle, with faces like Jennifer Lopez and Nicole Kidman capturing the elite impact of the brand. Known for being as exclusive, the Atelier line and its intricately refined craftsmanship is the perfect event for the closing of the Paris Ritz.
