Rockabilly and Retro Clothing for Summer
If there’s a fashion style that I love and adore with every inch and fiber of my life [exaggerating] … that would be Vintage and Pin-up Looks. As you may remember back in January I have shared a Retro / Vintage inspired ensemble and have featured vivid bright color combination. Ever since then I have tried featuring more Vintage inspired looks which you can see in my Lookbook and other Fashion Social Sites.
Every time Spring arrives I get all excited and worked up. Yes I love spring, the flowers in bloom… but that is not why I get all happy and chirpy. I get like this because it is a sign that my Favorite season is about to arrive —“SUMMER”. The heat, the sun, the perfect weather, the beach, travelling and so much more! Which is why I am starting my early preparation to get all dolled up and dressed up. This time I am shopping for more Retro and Vintage like apparel. If you’re not familiar of the Rockabilly then you’re missing out!
Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music, dating to the early 1950s. The term “rockabilly” is a portmanteau of “rock” (from “rock ‘n’ roll”) and “hillbilly”, the latter a reference to the country music (often called “hillbilly music” in the 1940s and 1950s) that contributed strongly to the style’s development. Other important influences on rockabilly include western swing, boogie woogie, and rhythm and blues. While there are notable exceptions, its origins lie primarily in the Southern United States. -Wikipedia
Simone Battle sporting a Rockabilly Style
In my opinion, popular people who are sporting the Rockabilly fashion are Dita Von Teese [my favorite!!!], Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, Katy Perry, Simone Battle and so on.
Mind you, I was born and raised with Rockabilly culture. Why? My Mama is a big Fan of Elvis Presley and she even made sure she is a member of the Elvisian Doll’s in Manila Philippines. Obviously she is a die-hard fan and have all of his singles. If there’s anyone I know who loves Elvis so much that would be her. It is because of her that i even know Elvis, Air Supply, The Beatles, The Carpenters and so on. As I was growing up, our house is livened up with music from these various artist that my Mama loves which I eventually learned to appreciate and love as well.
Which is why I am going to save up so I can shop ’til I drop and update my wardrobe. 🙂 Check out the items I am keeping my eye on…
