How to Spice Up a Tuxedo
Wearing a tuxedo to a formal event such as work requires that you stick to the plane white shirt and black tie with dress shoes, but if you’re going anywhere else, who says you can’t make it a little cooler? Spicing up a tuxedo is a fun way to look classy while still showing off your personal style. Usually, dressing up your tuxedo should be done by adding a few touches here and there rather than by changing everything. You want to look subtly cooler without overdoing it. Here are a few tips to get you started.
People have made multi-colour tuxedos for years and with colour being all the rage in men’s fashion, now’s your chance to wear that mint green tux you’ve always dreamed about… or not. However; this year you can easily switch out one piece (or everything) from your tuxedo into something more colourful and fun. Try wearing a red jacket, or a purple one, or whatever other colour you like. Colour is in fashion and you might as well have fun with it.
Wear Fun Shoes
Who says you have to wear boring, ugly and uncomfortable dress shoes out with your tuxedo? If you aren’t going to a work party or a court meeting then you can always feel free to wear something more fun. While I wouldn’t advise wearing flip flops or sandals; you can spice things up with a pair of red converse or doc martens or whatever. Try pairing your favourite shoes with your tuxedo and see how they look. What I recommend is to wear something that is completely different in colour so that it stands out and looks cool. Alternatively, you could just get a pair of coloured dress shoes. For example, you can find zebra striped dress shoes at some online shops. If animals aren’t your thing, you can find the same pair with flames or a skull on the side instead.
Subtle ways to spice up your tuxedo include adding more fun versions of accessories that you would usually wear. Add a mint green handkerchief to your jacket or wear colourful dress shoes and socks with smiley faces. You can also get a tie with a unique or fun decoration, there are plenty of novelty ties to choose from that are sure to spice up any tuxedo. Other options include wearing novelty cuff links or whatever you like.
Colourful Button-Downs Are In
The great thing about men’s fashions right now is that they don’t limit men to the few colours they did twenty years ago. You can easily get away with putting a burgundy button-down shirt under your tuxedo. Not only is it in fashion, it’s a fun and classy way to spice up your tuxedo. Don’t like burgundy? Any deep, rich colour will look great with a tuxedo so just pick anything you like to wear.
Wear a Fun T-Shirt
Graphic T-Shirts are a great way to spice up a tuxedo. All you have to do is put on your favourite t-shirt and skip your tie; you will look classy and cool at the same time. Usually you should consider pairing your tuxedo with a t-shirt with a large logo on the breast so that you can see it through the shirt. What graphic design you decide to go with is up to you, but no matter what it is, it’s sure to be fun. For a bit of a laugh, you can always purchase a t-shirt with a tuxedo design on it and wear your jacket over it, however; this can look tacky if you aren’t careful.
